Sinds enige tijd kan ik Spotify via een app in de auto gebruiken. Een hele mooie uitvoering van “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” door Kingsway Music klonk deze week bij herhaling. De tekst is eenvoudig en heeft net als andere oude liederen een diepe achtergrond. Zo ook dit lied van Joseph M. Scriven die tot twee keer toe zijn verloofde verloor vlak voor hij ging trouwen, dramatisch. Als je onder deze omstandigheden dat kan verwoorden is er veel kracht in zulke woorden. Een zelfde achtergrond kent het lied “It is well with my soul” van Horatio_Spafford.
